Marek Dąbrowski was born in Bydgoszcz on April 13, 1951. He is a professor of economics. His academic career includes work at Warsaw University Institute of Economic Science (1974-76), at the Institute of Organisation, Management and Staff Improvement (1976-83), and since 1983 at the Institute of Economic Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In the Government led by Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki, he served as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Finance.

He has also been Chairperson of the Prime Ministerial Privatisation Council (1991-96) and a member of the Supervisory Board of Polski Bank Rozwoju (1990-92), and has worked at the Research Department of the World Bank (1994-95). He sat on the Supervisory Board of Bank Rolno-Przemyslowy and on the Executive Committee of the European Society for Comparative Economic Research (1995-96).

Marek Dąbrowski was a member of the Research Council of the President of the NBP. He was one of the founders of the CASE Foundation (the Centre for Socio-Economic Analysis), and is currently Vice Chairman of the Foundation’s Supervisory Council. He was a member of the First Sejm of the Polish Republic, and is the author of several hundred academic publications.
