Born in Wodzisław Śląski on 16 August 1960.
Professor of Economics, graduate of the Faculty of Management of the Academy of Economics in Katowice (currently the University of Economics). His career is connected with this university, where he is head of the Department of Business and Financial Analysis in the Faculty of Finance and Insurance.
He specialises in the application of econometric methods and statistical financial analysis. He has authored over 170 scientific papers, textbooks, scientific monographs, and articles. He was awarded individual prizes by the Minister of Science and Higher Education for his doctoral thesis (1994) and postdoctoral thesis (2000) as well as for his scientific monograph. He has led many research projects and fulfilled the role of supervisor for 9 doctoral proceedings.
He has had numerous academic internships abroad, including in École Supérieure de Commerce in Toulouse, the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, the University of Cambridge and the Arnhem Business School. He has also given lectures on financial data analysis at the University of Central Switzerland in Lucerne.
In 2002-2005, he served as Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs, then, until 2008, he was Vice-Dean for Scientific Affairs, and in 2008-2010 he was Dean at the Faculty of Management of the Academy of Economics in Katowice. In 2000-2010, he was a member of the Main Council of the Polish Statistical Association, and in 2007-2015 he was a representative of NBP in the Statistical Council. He is currently a member of the Programme Council of the quarterly publication “Bank i Kredyt” and chairman of the Programme Council of “Gazeta Bankowa”.
In 2007-2010, he was an adviser to the President of Narodowy Bank Polski, then in 2010-2016 he was a Member of the Management Board of Narodowy Bank Polski.
On 13 January 2016, the Senate of the Republic of Poland appointed Prof. Eugeniusz Gatnar to the Monetary Policy Council.
