Born in Żyrardów on 4 October 1978.
In 2002, he graduated from the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw, where he defended his doctoral thesis in 2007 and in 2014 he obtained his postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in Economics. Since 2017 associate professor of economics at the University of Warsaw. He also studied International Economics at the University of Namur (Belgium) for one year.
He is head of the Department of Political Economy at the University of Warsaw. He mainly specialises in transaction cost economics, the economics of institutions and regulations and also economic methodology. He has received prestigious awards for his research: a scholarship of the Foundation for Polish Science; a scholarship of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young researchers; a scholarship of the weekly “Polityka” as part of the “Stay with us!” campaign, and also in 2014 the Edward Lipiński Award of the Polish Economic Society. He was one of the winners of the first open competition for research projects of the NBP Economic Research Committee, under which he pursued a project on the impact of regulations on the transmission mechanisms of monetary policy.
During his academic career, Dr. Łukasz Hardt has worked in the Institute of Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where he took part in the work of the team of the Macroeconomic Monitoring Programme “Polish Economy – Forecast and Opinions”.
Dr. Łukasz Hardt was a visiting professor at the University of Cambridge, and also had research internships in universities in Helsinki and Milan, as well as in the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. He is a member of the Committee on Scientific Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
He was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
In 2015, President Andrzej Duda appointed him to the National Development Council.
On 17 February 2016, the President of the Republic of Poland appointed Dr. Łukasz Hardt to the Monetary Policy Council.
