Sławomir Stanisław Skrzypek was born in 1963.

A graduate of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice and holder of MBA under an extended curriculum in finance from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. He completed post-graduate studies at Cracow University of Economics in the field of assets and liabilities management in the Polish banking system, the University of Silesia in Katowice at the Faculty of Law and Administration, in Business Management at Georgetown University and finalized Advanced Management Program at IESE Business School University of Navarra.

In the years 1993-1997, he worked in the Supreme Chamber of Control, where he was responsible, inter alia, for the financial control of central and local government structures and the banking sector. Mr Skrzypek has experience in various areas of the financial sector. From May 2000 to June 2001, he was a member of a group of advisors at PZU Życie S.A., a Polish insurance company. He was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of PTE EPOKA SA pension fund. Between 1997-2000, he held the position of the Deputy President of the Management Board of the National Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management in Warsaw, where he supervised, inter alia, the Department of Capital Finance. Since 2001 he was engaged in financial consulting. He was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Brokerage House of BOŚ SA Bank. In the same year, he served as member of the Management Board of Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski National Investment Fund , a function he performed pursuant to the delegation from the Supervisory Board; in the years 2001-2002, he acted as member of the Management Board of the Polish Railways Company PKP SA.

From 2002 to 2005, he was Deputy Mayor of the Capital City of Warsaw, responsible, inter alia, for the financial policy, investment projects and corporate governance. In this capacity, he launched collaboration between the authorities of Warsaw and the European Investment Bank, the Council of Europe Development Bank and leading international banks worldwide.

Since December 2005, he was Vice President of the Management Board of PKO BP, and in September 2006 he also became acting President of the Management Board of PKO BP SA. In 2006, he served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bank Pocztowy SA., and since May 2006 – as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Polish Television (TVP SA).

On 10 January 2007, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland appointed Sławomir Skrzypek President of Narodowy Bank Polski.

Died tragically on 10 April 2010 in a plane crash near Smolensk, on his way to the ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Katyń massacre.

He left a wife and three children.
