Professor of Law, legal adviser. Graduated with a master’s degree in Law and History at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. In 2001, he received his doctoral degree for a dissertation on the bankruptcy law and in 2004 he received his post-doctoral degree. He became a Full Professor by the 2010 decision of the President of the Republic of Poland.

Since the early days of his professional career, Mr. Pogonowski has been mainly associated with the public finance sector. He has worked, among others, in the legislative service of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and in the Supreme Court. In 2006–2007, he was director of the Bureau of Legal Service and Legal Representation at the Ministry of Finance, and next was director of the Legal Office at the Military Intelligence Service until 2008. In 2008–2010, he&nbpswas, among others, director of the Office of the Head of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau. In 2015–2016, he was acting head of the Internal Security Agency (ABW), and in 2016–2020 he was the head of ABW, responsible, among others, for the protection of the economic interests of the state.

On 28 February 2020, President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, at the request of the President of Narodowy Bank Polski, appointed Piotr Pogonowski member of the NBP Management Board as of 1 March 2020.
