Money supply in December 2023

In December 2023, the M3 money supply increased by PLN 28.4bn. The increase was mainly driven by a rise in deposits and other claims of the household sector.

Data released by Narodowy Bank Polski on 24 January 2024 show that at the end of December 2023, the M3 aggregate amounted to PLN 2,268.3bn, i.e. PLN 28.4bn more than at the end of November 2023.

In December 2023, the value of deposits and other claims of the household sector included in the M3 aggregate increased by PLN 21.0bn, i.e. 1.8%, to PLN 1,202.7bn, that of other financial institutions sector by PLN 7.3bn, i.e. 10.3%, to PLN 77.9bn, while that of the non-financial corporations sector grew by 5.6bn, i.e. 1.1% to PLN 504.3bn. However, the value of deposits and other claims of the local government institutions declined by PLN 8.3bn, i.e. 12.0%, to PLN 60.8bn.

The debt of the household sector increased by PLN 3.4bn, i.e. 0.4%, to PLN 776.6bn, whereas that of the non-financial corporations sector fell by PLN 1.2bn, i.e. 0.3%, to PLN 400.6bn. The net debt of central government entities grew by PLN 20.8bn, i.e. 5.3%, to PLN 414.2bn.
