The Payment Systems Department performs tasks related to the operation and development of the Polish payment system, operating the accounts of banks and performing inter-bank settlements.

Moreover, the tasks of the Payment Systems Department include:

  • carrying out analyses and research involving the development of the operation of the payment system in Poland and other countries and payment and financial innovations,
  • handling large-value payment systems, i.e. SORBNET3 and TARGET-NBP,
  • collecting information and statistical data concerning the Polish payment system,
  • carrying out analytical works on a Central Bank Digital Currency,
  • performance of tasks related to assigning numbers to banks and their organisational units as well as assigning identifiers to non-bank payment service providers that operate payment accounts and participate in payment systems,
  • cooperation on issues relating to the Polish payment system with other banks, operators of systems forming the payment system and foreign entities.
