“Friendship and Brotherhood Are the Greatest Wealth”collector coins issued by NBP and the NBU

A set of silver collector coins “Friendship and Brotherhood Are the Greatest Wealth” issued together by Narodowy Bank Polski and the National Bank of Ukraine will be available on sale as of 24 August 2023.

The set comprises two coins: one with a face value of 10 złoty and the other 10 hryvnia, each made of 999 purity silver, measuring 26.42 millimetres x 50.00 millimetres and weighing a minimum of 31.10 grams. The coins create a compositional whole in the shape of a heart. They have been designed by Volodymyr Taran. The total mintage of the set of coins will be up to 10,000 pieces (5,000 pieces produced by Mennica Polska SA for sale by NBP and 5,000 pieces produced by the Banknote Printing and Minting Works of the National Bank of Ukraine for sale by the NBU).

The obverse of the coins features ribbons in the colours of the Ukrainian and Polish flag. They are decorated with the emblem of Ukraine and the image of the Eagle established as the state emblem of the Republic of Poland. The bottom part of the coins features decorative drawings of human figures. The compositions symbolise the current situation in both countries: the Ukrainian coin depicts dangers of the war and the people’s resistance, and the Polish coin – help and compassion.

The reverse of the Polish and the Ukrainian coins depicts two figures sitting at a table, sharing bread and wine. Below them, there is a decorative element. When the two coins are put together, it forms – against the background of the tablecloth – a flower symbolising hope, life and growth.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has led to one of the largest humanitarian crises in the recent history of this part of the world. From the very beginning of the war, tens of thousands of Ukrainians, mostly women and children, found shelter in Poland every day. Already at the border, everyone received necessary assistance. Millions of refugees have been welcomed into the homes of Polish families and no one has been left without a roof over their heads. The Ukrainians defending their homeland gratefully emphasise that the most important things for them are the safety of their loved ones, kindness towards their families and schooling of their children.

Solidarity with those fighting for freedom is one of the foundations of the Polish identity. The aid given to Ukrainian refugees from the first days of the war is a demonstration of the Christian attitude of Poles, which has its origins in religion, humanitarianism and the native ethos of service to those in need. Poland has been one of the most active supporters of Ukraine in its struggle for independence. Poland has spared no effort or resource in supporting it, and has donated a substantial part of its own weapons to the fighters. Both Ukrainians and Poles know perfectly well that more unites them than divides them, and nothing can more precious than the treasure of mutual friendship and brotherhood.

The issue date of the coins agreed with the National Bank of Ukraine – 24 August – is a symbolic one. That day is the Independence Day of Ukraine.

The coins, in sets, can be purchased at  Regional Branches of NBP and in NBP online shop Kolekcjoner at the price of PLN 950.

The mintage to be sold in Ukraine will be distributed via the official distribution banks and the online shop of the National Bank of Ukraine as of 31 August 2023.

Narodowy Bank Polski intends to donate the proceeds from the sale of the set of collector coins “Friendship and Brotherhood Are the Greatest Wealth” to Ukraine as non-refundable humanitarian financial aid.

This year’s issue is another joint initiative of the NBU and NBP. In 2012, both banks issued silver collector coins on the occasion of the UEFA 2010–2012 European Football Championship. Like now, they formed a set.

The next issue is scheduled on 5 September 2023. On that date Narodowy Bank Polski will be putting into circulation silver collector coins “Soviet Aggression against Poland – 17 September 1939” with a face value of 20 złoty.

Спільна емісія Національного банку Польщі та Національного банку України

з нагоди Дня Незалежності України

Від завтра – 24 серпня – у продажу з’явиться набір срібних колекційних монет «Дружба і братство – найбільше багатство», випущений спільно Національним банком Польщі та Національним банком України.

Набір складається з монет номіналом 10 злотих і 10 гривень; обидва виготовлені зі срібла Ag 999, кожен має розмір 26,42 x 50,00 міліметрів і мінімальну вагу 31,10 грама. Монети утворюють композиційне ціле і складаються у форму серця. Автор проекту – Володимир Таран. Загальний тираж комплекту монет становитиме до 10 000 штук (5 000 штук виробництва Mennica Polska SA призначені для продажу через НБП, 5 000 штук виробництва Банкнотно-монетного двору НБУ призначені для продажу через НБУ).

На аверсах монет зображено стрічки у кольорах українського та польського прапорів. Вони прикрашені гербом України та зображенням орла — гербом Республіки Польща. У нижній частині монет розміщені декоративні малюнки людських фігур. Композиції символізують сучасне становище обох країн: українська монета уособлює небезпеку війни та опір народу, а польська – допомогу та співчуття.

На реверсах польської та української монети зображено дві постаті, які сидять за столом і діляться хлібом та вином. Нижче розміщено декоративний елемент, який при складанні двох монет утворює на тлі скатертини квітку – символ надії, життя та розвитку.

Російське вторгнення в Україну призвело до однієї з наймасштабніших гуманітарних криз у сучасній історії цієї частини світу. Від початку війни десятки тисяч українців, переважно жінок і дітей, щодня знаходили притулок у Польщі, отримуючи необхідну допомогу на кордоні. Польські родини прийняли у свої домівки мільйони українців, ніхто не залишився без даху над головою. Українці, які захищають Батьківщину, із вдячністю наголошують, що для них найголовніше – безпека близьких, доброзичливе ставлення до їхніх родин та можливість для дітей продовжувати навчання.

Солідарність із борцями за свободу є однією з основ польської національної ідентичності. Допомога українським біженцям від початку війни є проявом християнського ставлення поляків, джерелами якого є релігія, гуманізм та етос служіння нужденним. Польща є однією з країн, яка найактивніше підтримує Україну в її боротьбі за незалежність. Польща не шкодує ані сил, ані коштів для підтримки України, передає захисникам значну частину власної зброї. Українці та поляки чудово знають, що між ними набагато більше спільного, ніж того, що їх роз’єднує, і ніщо не може бути ціннішим за скарб взаємної дружби та братерства.

Дата випуску монет — 24 серпня, встановлена спільно з Національним банком України, має символічне значення. Цього дня Україна святкує День Незалежності.

Монети в наборі можна буде придбати в регіональних відділеннях НБП та в інтернет-магазині НПБ Kolekcjoner за 950 злотих.

Тираж, призначений для продажу в Україні, буде розповсюджуватися починаючи з 31 серпня цього року через офіційні дистриб’юторські банки та через інтернет-магазин Національного банку України.

Національний банк Польщі планує передати Україні кошти від продажу комплекту монет «Дружба і братство – найбільше багатство» у вигляді безповоротної гуманітарної фінансової допомоги.

Цьогорічний випуск – це друга спільна ініціатива НБУ та НБП. У 2012 році з нагоди Чемпіонату Європи з футболу 2010–2012 років обидва банки випустили срібні колекційні монети, що – як і зараз – утворюють набір.

Наступний випуск заплановано на 5 вересня 2023 року. Цього дня Національний банк Польщі введе в обіг срібні колекційні монети номіналом 20 злотих «Совєтська агресія проти Польщі 17 вересня 1939 року».
