Member of the Monetary Policy Council

Born in Batorz on 27 June 1950.

Following her graduation from a Technical High School of Economics she graduated from the Economics Department at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, obtaining an MSc in regional development in 1974. From 1974 to 1976 she was a teaching assistant in the Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development in the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. From 1976 to 1980 she worked as an academic teacher at the Faculty of Economics of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.

In 1982 she obtained a doctoral degree in economics and started her work as an Assistant Professor at the Chair of Economics of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, where she lectured on the economics of the market economy. She also headed the Study on the Development of Rural Areas conducted in cooperation with universities and colleges from France, Belgium and Italy. In 2006–2015 she lectured on economic policy with particular focus on monetary policy in the College of Social and Media Culture in Toruń. She promoted several dozen master’s theses on the functioning of the capital market and competitiveness, among others.

Gabriela Masłowska was a deputy to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland of the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth and Ninth terms.

From 2002 onwards she was a member of the Parliamentary Public Finance Committee, and during the Eighth and Ninth terms of the Sejm its vice-chairman. She was also a member of the Agriculture, Infrastructure and Health Committees, as well as numerous subcommittees, including the subcommittee for the monitoring of the tax system and financial institutions. She also belonged to many parliamentary groups. In the present term of the Sejm she was the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the Three Seas Initiative Group. Her particular areas of interest in parliament included monetary policy, the capital market and the financial system, and issues of the cooperative movement. She testified twice before the Constitutional Tribunal on issues related to cooperatives, which proved essential for the implementation of favourable ownership transformations in housing cooperatives.

Gabriela Masłowska carries out systematic research and analyses based on international statistics concerning the functioning of the euro area. The results of her research were included in around one hundred parliamentary speeches regarding monetary policy and the capital market, and in scientific and popular science publications, such as Makroekonomia gospodarki rynkowej [Macroeconomics of the market economy]ABC rynku kapitałowego [ABC of the capital market]O zachowanie suwerenności monetarnej Polski [Safeguarding Polish monetary sovereignty].

On 6 October 2022, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland appointed Gabriela Masłowska member of the Monetary Policy Council.
