The Governor of NBP Prof. Adam Glapiński proposed Piotr Szpunar as candidate for the post of Director at the EBRD

On 13 February 2023, the Governor of NBP Prof. Adam Glapiński, in his capacity as Governor for Poland of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), submitted the candidacy of Piotr Szpunar for the post of Director at the EBRD representing Poland, Bulgaria and Albania.

The election of the directors by the Board of Governors ended on 14 April 2023. As of 1 July 2023, Piotr Szpunar will assume the post of Director at the EBRD, remaining as Director of the Economic Analysis and Research Department of NBP until the end of June 2023.

Piotr Szpunar has been professionally associated with Narodowy Bank Polski since 1995, working as an expert and in managerial positions in the field of monetary policy and financial stability. He obtained his doctorate in 1999 after completing his doctoral studies at SGH Warsaw School of Economics. He is the author of many publications on economics and financial stability.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is an international financial institution promoting development of the private sector in states undergoing economic and systemic transformation. The head office of the bank is in London. Poland is one of the largest countries of the EBRD’s operations. In 2022, the bank supported projects implemented in Poland with a total amount of 990 million euro.
